I can't even!
« on: November 30, 2007, 09:18:28 PM »
Hello

I've installed Avast for home use, but can't even access internet once it's running!

I know it's probably something very basic, please help.

You'll need to allow avast! Webshield to access the internet in your firewall.

thanks for reply

I was running Mcafee, which has now expired & now downloaded avast as a replacement

keep getting reminders about renewing mcafee etc & have just disabled the firewall but still then would not let me connect.

no pop ups have appeared asking to allow avast to connect, which would happen before.

Is it likely I have another firewall program or something still preventing avast?

any help much appreciated

Hint: McAfee has a firewall, avast is only an antivirus.

keep getting reminders about renewing mcafee etc & have just disabled the firewall but still then would not let me connect.
I would suggest you completely uninstall McAfee, then install avast, then install only McAfee firewall if you want. This article provides the steps to remove SecurityCenter from your computer: http://ts.mcafeehelp.com/faq3.asp?docid=71525

Sometimes, McAfee won't be completely removed if, before, you do not uninstall Avast, including the use of its "Uninstall Application" if necessary (www.avast.com/eng/faq-install-uninstall-avast.html).

 :)  Hi "Rubbish" :

You have to COMPLETELY REMOVE McAfee, by following these Instructions
     from THEIR Support Forums :

" Download the removal tool from:

http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe

Click Save and save the file to any folder on your computer.
Navigate to the folder where the file is saved.
Make sure all McAfee windows are closed.
Double-click MCPR.EXE to run the removal tool. \\\\ Note: Windows Vista users must right-click MCPR.EXE and select Run as Administrator.
Restart your computer after receiving the message CleanUp Successful. "

McAfee MUST be COMPLETELY REMOVED for Avast to properly function .

Tech : That "McAfeehelp" link you quoted no longer works .
