Computer crashing, supposedly anti-virus related
« on: December 03, 2007, 02:34:13 PM »
Over the past three days my computer (Windows XP) has crashed about 10 times.  It will just cut off, automatically start back up, run a disc check, and then run as normal.  Everytime that it happens this is the accompanying response I get from windows.

http://wer.microsoft.com/responses/Response.aspx/6508/en-US/5.1.2600.2.00010100.2.0?SGD=1603b5fe-aad4-44c9-af6f-8f01bbdd9d3d#here

Avast is up-to-date (Home ed).

I've checked to see if there are any other anti-virus programs on computer as per suggestion 2 (even though I know I haven't installed any), so I'm just hoping that someone might have a suggestion.

Thanks in advance for any responses.

You can send us or upload to the avast! FTP a memory dump from you machine. It will help us more than just a microsoft guess page.

The best advice for you, in my opinion, is to copy the error number on the blue death screen. Then google parts of it to see if any related problem is on the Internet. If you want, you can post the error message (numbers, etc.) here in forums too.

Besides Google also you can use:
MS knowledgebase: http://support.microsoft.com/search/?adv=1
Free memory tester (Run it overnight): http://www.memtest86.com/
XP error explanations: http://www.xptuneup.com/xptuneup_stopmessages.htm
The best things in life are free.

 :)  Hi Bimmer :

Most computers come pre-loaded with an antivirus program like Norton
or McAfee, which was NOT COMPLETELY REMOVED because those
programs "Removal Tool" was NOT used; it this your situation ?
