Avast stopped scanning e-mails in MS Outlook

I have just realised that Avast is nolonger scanning my MS Outlook e-mail. I don't even get the avast splash screen when i start outlook. The outlook plugin seems to still be active, i've run ashPopWz.exe to automatically protect my accounts but no joy!

Avast version: 1.4.357
Windows XP Pro V5.1 (SP1)
Outlook 2002 (SP2)

I haven't tried reinstalling avast from scratch......should i wait to find the problem or just re-install?
