Blocking of trackers no longer free?
« on: June 03, 2022, 01:53:57 AM »
I now get the attached from the Avast Online Security extension in Microsoft Edge web browser. It appears the blocking of trackers now requires payment. I uninstalled it after years of use.  :(
Avast since 2004.

Surely you can do that in your Edge browser  (which I don't use).

I used ASB add-on when it first came out, but I gave up on it because I didn't like the clutter in search results.  In all honesty I don't need it and I feel savvy users don't really need something like this.  I don't fear any of the heading in the screenshot.

I use Firefox 101.0 and there is much in the settings to prevent some of those headings.  I also use add-ons (uBlock Origin, and uMatrix) to block ads/cookies, etc. that can be used to track you.

You don't actually say what Avast Program version you are using ?

So I have no idea why you would be getting an Add for Avast One ?
Other than if you had Avast Free and they are trying to switch you to Avast One paid version.  If you are happy with what you have, ignore it and X it out.

I think we know that, but the unknown factors are:
What Avast Program 'skinnyJM' is using.
If he is using Avast Free, then surely the AOS should cover the tracking aspect (and to some degree the browser and add-ons they use already)  ?

Though that advert is for Avast One in skinnyJM's post and not Avast One Free - Personally I feel a switch from Avast Free to Avast One Free is a downgrade  (lose of configuration to be considered).

I myself use Avast Free, and I noticed  the other day that the Avast Online Security browser extension stopped working properly. Please see my replies in the other thread that silentjim had started:

I ended up sending a Bug Report, as Asyn had suggested I do.

As I mentioned I don't use the Avast Online Security browser extension, based on having Avast Antivirus with the Web Shield and Firefox with tight controls.  I also have a slew of blockers as I mentioned in my first reply, so I don't find ASB brings anything else to the party for me.

Hopefully your bug report will bring prompt action.

Dev-Info: We made Anti-Tracking as premium feature in Avast One available countries. This feature is premium in Avast One and we were offering it for free with AOSP. However, there is a bug for users in Avast One available countries running AV Product (free or premium). In this case, Anti-Tracking should work without the limitation.

Fix was already posted to BETA and we expect it will be published to PROD sometime this week.

Based on post by Asyn it may just be a bug.
