Protecting against port scanners
« on: June 13, 2022, 04:15:58 AM »
Does the free version protect against port scanners? I have Bitdefender on a machine and it alerted me to port scanning of that computer. Sitting next to it on the same network I installed the free version of Avast on a different computer to check it out. Should I expect a similar alert from Avast with default settings, does it require specific settings, or does it require the paid version?

That Avast has a Firewall (if you elect to install it) you can choose Public or Private Network, it also Has the Network Inspector

So Avast Free with its firewall also installed can protect against any attacks of this type?
Thank you and good day!

I wouldn't know, as I said I don't have the Avast Firewall component installed.

Good luck with that, seeing Avast input in the Avast support forums is like finding Gold at the end of the Rainbow.

i dont think avast free protect from port scan since there a premium section on the firewall settings to require paid version to enable
if i remember correctly its only active if the network is set to public/untrusted though even if its enabled

Protection -> Firewall -> Premium Section

Thanks for that reply and attachment, not having the Free Firewall component installed I couldn't see that.

But in normal use of a PC connected to the Internet via WiFi in a private network, is port scan protection necessary to increase the security of your PC?
Or is it mainly recommended for PCs connected to each other in a network etc...?
So if I'm on a public WiFi the Firewall Free is on in the public network I should still be protected. Right?
