Is Avast meant to be used on Chromebook? When I try to download it I can't open it. I'm not sure how chromebook works yet and I don't know what anti virus / malware system to use and the net isn't much help.

Try the search I gist did - https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=antivirus+for+chromebook+OS

Though this item found on the search returned this - https://chromeready.com/4798/install-use-avast-antivirus-chromebook/ - getting it from the Play Store on your chromebook.

However later in these instructions, it also mentions:
Option #2. Installing Avast Antivirus from the Chrome Web Store, but this is talking about the Avast Online Security, which is a browser add-on not the full product.  But then mentioned it installing avast antivirus, which confused the hell out of me, easily done.  Then again I don't use a chromebook
either.
