Unexpected behaviour updating Avast from Google Play Store
« on: June 23, 2022, 04:29:21 AM »
Dear Avast

We have 4 devices running Avast Mobile Security for Android (Free)
All apps are updated manually - ie Automatic updates from Google Play Store is off

6 weeks ago two of the devices showed a warning yellow triangle against Avast on the Google Play update screen with message 'Couldn't Install'
Odd since auto-updates are OFF and because the devices were running the same version shown on Google Play - 6.48.1

As a precaution Avast was reinstalled on the 2 devices. At the end of May the 3rd device did the same thing and Avast was reinstalled

Just over a week ago the first two devices prompted for an update to version 6.94.2 which was installed. When I went to update the other 2 devices a few days later the Play Store had reverted to version 6.48.1 and so the latter 2 devices weren't prompting to update Avast

This week version 6.94.4 has appeared on Google Play Store and ALL 4 devices are prompting to update. I'm waiting to ensure the update remains on Play Store.

Additionally the 4th device, currently running 6.48.1, is showing the yellow triangle and message previously shown by the other devices

Finally, yesterday one week since the update to 6.94.2, scans were done on the two devices running 6.49.2. This was the first scan since these devices were updated. The scans were very slow. However all scans since then have run at normal speed.

Why the yellow triangle and warning message
Why was version 6.94.2 pulled from Google Play Store
Why was the first scan with 6.94.2 slow

Regards
Moroq

Hi,

The yellow triangle warning message is displayed by Google Play and does not hang with our app directly.
Version 6.94.2 was not pulled from the Google Play Store. It takes time before the new version is available to 100% of all users.
The first scan with 6.94.2 might have been slow due to something specific on your device, e.g. number of installed apps, files, etc. If you notice a slow scan again, please let us know, and we can look into it.
