Avast Premium warns "not protected", shows password protection shield "off". I can click the switch to on and it shows there Chrome and Edge protected  but it doesn't register as on and returning to setting switch always shows it off again.

Repair Avast:
1. Avast GUI -> Settings -> Troubleshooting
2. Click on 'REPAIR APP'.
3. Follow instructions.
4. Reboot.

 :( I just tried that several times, Windows 10 desktop, had disabled all other security apps such as Windows Defender, Malwarebytes was all of and exited closed, McAfee also all off, did all this logged on as Windows admin desktop, it's an older 64 bit capable mobo but with 32 bit Win10 and other software, 700 gbs free hd, 3 gbs ram, so it still runs stuff fine and I watch always in taxk manger to be sure not over loading... Win settings are to have max 70% cpu, passive mode to reduce resources use before speeding up fan, for good fan life... I even tried turning all in Avast off and removing components jic any were interfering with accessing browsers passwords... MAYBE HELPFUL FOR YOU TO KNOW IS IN THE 1ST PRIVACY-PASSWORDS PROTECT ICON WINDOW THAT OPENS FROM THAT, I CAN TURN SWITCH ON, BUT CAN'T TURN IT OFF THERE... CLKI ON GEAR WITH SIMILAR POPUP THAT SHOWS OFF BUT WON'T TURN ON... IT SHOWS DEFAULT CHROME, EDGE AND AVAST BROWSERS NOT PROTECTED... THE 1ST SWITCH WINDOW THAT TURNS ON SHOWED THEM ALL PROTECTED... BUT THE PROGRAM BAR SYSTRAY ICON KEEPS THE "X"... WHEN I CLOSE AND GO BACK TO 1ST SWITCH WINDOW THAT TURNED ON, IT'S BACK TO OFF. Do you have a downloadable repair executable or should I do full uninstall from win10, reboot, reinstall, reboot again or does more need to be done for clean reinstall ?? :-(

First, be sure to get rid of all remnants of any prior installed AV(s)..!!
-> https://support.avast.com/en-ww/article/11/

Then:
1. Download Avast Premium Security: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_premium_security_setup_offline.exe
2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions..!!)
3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
4. Reboot.

PS: Regarding Avast & Malwarebytes, see: https://support.malwarebytes.com/hc/en-us/articles/360051090194-Issues-running-other-security-applications-and-Malwarebytes-for-Windows

BBIG MAC SIZE THANKS !! :-) Followed your details steps to remove all other security and ad and tracker stuff of others, win10 uninstaller took all those and all avast out. i didn't need to use your cleaner but did just to be sure. i have a warning for some like me that need to limit in windows power settings their cpu to 70% max and passive cooling to slow demands down before speeding up fan. The cleaner reboots in safe mode which has not that limiter loaded so cpu got hot fast and fan really sped up making stress noise. But I stopped I closed the browser windows that opened and ended cpu heavy task in task man. All's well. EVERYTHING WORKS GREAT ABD NO LAG EITHER LIKE BEFORE WITHOUT THOSE OTHER LIMITING AV, AD, TRACKER APPS. :-)
