I cannot say for sure that this happens but I have been recently been surprised to see version updates when I have not manually initiated them. I also suspect that this has happened with a Windows 10 system I support but only occasionally visit.  Its user waits for me to to perform the Avast updates because of system disruption following an attempted update from 21.5 to 21.8 last year. I recemtly visited her and was surprised to see Avast 21.5 had apparently automatically updated to Avast 22.3 on 4 April 2022, WITHOUT PROBLEMS!!!

Avast seems to be full of surprises.

Do you mean updated 22.3 to 22.5?
Otherwise it would be a real surprise.

I played safe and only updated from 22.3 to 22.4.  I wanted to minimise the chances of a repeat performance of the 21.5->21.8 debacle last year.

Either way, it's very important you're using the latest version, just in case of any known security vulnerabilities.
