do pop ups even work on avast one anymore?
« on: August 01, 2022, 02:00:35 PM »
I have been using avast one for some time now, more or less since the update, and something I can't help but notice is that when using it I never get notifications (like in previous versions) when a threat, either though the web shield, or the file shield, is blocked.

Is this just client-side to myself, an error, or is it just a feature in Avast One. Silent mode isn't active.

You could use this test site, http://eicar.org it has several tests you can run that should trigger an alert.  This is a harmless file which should be recognised as malicious by antiviruses.  Again it isn't malicious all AVs should have this (so called) virus signature in their database for testing purposes.

Hi,
I tried that but the window just freezes/sometimes crashes windows explorer upon attempting to load it, I don't know if this is avast's way of blocking it... I have tried this several times and the same response (even with mbam's malware protection off). Avast web shield, that blocks the site alltogether (as it should) but just with the basic "connection aborted" screen on chrome. Is avast suppoed to show popups on One anymore? Just wondering from another users perspective.

I think the photos you posted are displayed on free, but not on One.

I don't use Avast One, but the alert process should be the same, whilst there might be some UI differences.

The idea was to test and see if you got an alert.

Avast no matter what type should have had the web shield alert before it ever got near to being downloaded.  However it shouldn't as you say 'Block the site' as there is nothing wrong with the site (why I first gave the eicar.org url.  From there even going to the second URL I gave shouldn't alert, there is nothing there.  You should only get an alert when trying to download one of the files located on that page (as shown in my first screenshot).

It isn't clear (to me) what is going on with your installation of Avast One in trying to download one of the test files.

Your mention of MBAM, could be a conflict between the two programs especially if you have the MBAM Web protect function (not sure what they may be calling it now).  It isn't advisable to have two antivirus/anti-malware programs installed, it is similar to having two dogs and one bone, they fight.

You literally have to add exclusions to both programs to prevent conflict.  I gave up on MBAM Pro (lifetime license) many, many years ago when it became bloated and heavy on resources.

Nope, still no alert, I can access the eicar site fine, upon attempting to download, the connection is reset, this is the same on edge. No popups though. I tried it on avast secure browser and edge with mbam web protection off as well, avast blocks the site/download as expected, but no popup, I think it's just a notifications thing, I looked through all of avast's settings but anything that would prevent popups (although scanning does still show) is not active.
idk.

This is looking more and more like a conflict with MBAM and Avast.
