Avast would not run

I have program version 22.6.6022 (Avast free) installed on Windows 7 laptop computer.  I have had Avast  for several years now and would not run on startup. Avast icon showed in taskbar as usual, but did nothing when left or right clicked it.  I restarted the computer & by the way, it took about 4-minutes to shut down before it restarted.  I saw no error messages.  What could have caused the problem?  I do run malware scans regularly & nothing has showed up.

Repair Avast:
Open the Avast User Interface > Menu > Settings > Troubleshooting > Repair App. > Restart the Computer or,
Control Panel> Program and Features (Add/remove program)>Select Avast> Select Repair. Reboot when completed
