Web Shield & Azure WAF
« on: August 03, 2022, 12:38:52 AM »
I noticed an issue quite some time ago where I was unable to access coronavirus.data.gov.uk in Chrome (both regular tabs and incognito) as it appeared their Azure WAF was blocking the requests from my browser. As incognito was also affected, it didn't appear to be related to cookies. I noticed that usually Edge or IE were fine.

At some point it resolved itself for reasons unknown.

Subsequently I noticed the same issue today with portal.office.com (logging in to my employer's MS365 subscription)- likewise also affecting incognito tabs. Despite incognito being affected, I cleared all cookies etc to no avail.

Other MS365 URLs - e.g. outlook.office.com / teams.microsoft.com did not seem to be affected.

I have found however that disabling the web shield in Avast resolves the issue. Around 30 seconds or so after I re-enable this, access will be blocked again.

Any suggestions? I'm only running the free version, so not able to raise a support ticket directly.
