boot time scan & password manager issues
« on: August 29, 2022, 01:49:29 PM »
Hi all
thought it best to start a new post instead of hijacking others.

2 issues

boot time scan will not run (video attached)

password manage (picture attached) off centre with second button view password not showing). similar happened around 2 years ago and it took the devs quite a while to sort out.

PC Clevo gaming laptop
windows 10 pro 64bit 19044.1889
avast premium security
definitions 29/8/22 220829-2
version 19/8/22 version 22.8.6030- build 22.8.7500.734
malwarebytes free instaalled

last full boot time scan was done roughly 3-4 weeks ago. never had any issue with it in the many years ive been with avast.
now i reboot and file loading at bottom of screen like it always loads then usually goes to black screen and scan starts running.
now as you can see by video it opens promp box then shows on centre of screen AV boot-time scanner. clicking on create file and OK the computer reboots to log in screen for normal use.

video https://youtu.be/bB620b2B_1I

any advice would be greatly appretiated. if you need a log file just holler.

edit. as video is a bit blury here the cmd text

Hi all, and hi MrDJ.

I have the exact same issue with the boot scan.
Windows 10 Home 10.0.19044.

Done every available update on Avast, updated virus definitions, also tried to fix app with the installation manager.
No use.

Regarding boot scan, this thread also discusses that problem. https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=320897.0

i did see and read that thread but tbh they could all be talking in another language for all i know as i had no idea what they are talking about. im no techy like a lot and buy a product which is plug and play so i dont understand Win RE (thanks google windows runtime) which as far as i can tell is now the new norm for the boottime scan.
but this posted from DavidR
So for the moment it is disable using the Windows RE boot-time scan in the geek:area, awaiting a fix and using the old method, or stop using the boot-time scan for now.
does this mean we have to go into Geek and stop/turn off/untick? or has it been turned off by the devs as theve received a ticket and are working on a fix.
untill yesterday i had never even heard of the top secret Geek area.

ok we are getting somewhere.
so explaining it as best i can in a non techy way,

after reading all the links posted about this issue it actually is not an issue or fault but an included update in the latest avast version.
Milos posted about the Geek area (post 15) here  https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=320643.0
by unticking the box highlighted in his picture (Boot time scan: Run in windows recovery environment) and restarting then going to UI and clicking on run boot time scan on next bootup and the old version of run time scan runs as normal.

and my next question
when this updated version that runs in Win RE is finally fixed and working could someone explain in simple terms of what the difference is, ie does this run in the background and you can still use your computer and where would the report of the scan be found.
tbh ive still not been able to find where the report ends up after a scan using the older version of boot time scan :)

It doesn't run in the background. It runs before the operating system actually starts so you have no access to your system till the scan finishes or you quit the scan.

Thanks Bob.
Ive reverted back to the older version for now.

Any ideas on what could be causing the issue with the passwords where the eye to view password has been pushed of screen.

I'm a user just like you. That's something for Avast to answer and solve. Sorry.
