In a way I'm a bit sad as this feels more like acquisition that merger, but if they continue doing their own thing, I'm kinda excited, particularly on technology front if they will merge both of their technologies. The part I'm scared of a bit is the history of Symantec/Norton and how they absorbed many cool companies, talked how they'll keep them around and then dissolved them after...

Sad news.

Especially, considering how bad Symantec/Norton's own antrivurs is (for variety of reasons), from experiences of different people, and my own.

Info from Norton LifeLock

https://investor.nortonlifelock.com/news/news-details/2022/NortonLifeLock-Completes-Merger-with-Avast/default.aspx

While Vlk's merger message had a human touch, this is total and absolute corporate speak. I don't like it at all...

Which is exactly how it is described in the Norton announcement at the
link previously posted:

"NortonLifeLock (NASDAQ: NLOK), a global leader in Cyber Safety, today
announced it has completed its previously announced acquisition of Avast."

I'm still not very happy about Norton and I really can't trust them.

I have only been using Avast Free for over 18 years

Just to let you know, David, there are at lest a dozen other products out there better than Avast! , which you may like them.

But you have to think "out of the box" .......

No they aren't. I've been trying other products on and off for years and always returned to Avast because they were always rubbish. Even those today, Bitdefender is still a buggy mess like it has always been, AVIRA was a terrible joke since the early 2000's, Kaspersky has improved, but is filled with useless garbage, still requires account, installs worthless VPN every time with no option to remove it during install, you always need to remove it after install, doing unnecessary reboots. Yuck.
Windows Defender would be great if it wasn't slower than a fresh turd sliding down a 1% slope and if they ever bothered to fix the damn Folder Access Control. I still can't wrap my head around the fact that this feature has been broken for years, since its introduction. Meanwhile Ransomware Shield in Avast, that's the same feature, just endlessly better has worked great since day 1.

I'll stay in the safe "Box". I've used Avast since 2003 and have never had an infected system.
Avast has kept my systems safe. I try and report on many new programs and apps but my AV isn't one of those
that I play games with. Avast does it's job and does it well. No sense trying something else and get burned.

You don't think I started out using Avast, no I didn't. I kissed my share of frogs before I settled on Avast.  With its configurability it suited my requirements/needs without crippling my systems.

So long as that is the case I have no need to start kissing frogs again.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.3.6108 (build 24.3.8975.762) UI 1.0.801/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

What about Webroot?  Light, performant, highly praised.
