Possible Very Slow Browser Solution!
« on: September 23, 2022, 07:35:04 AM »
I was having bad problems with a very slow/unresponsive Avast Secure Browser Pro in Windows 10, even when offline, and viewing a new page only. It was as bad as the very slow dial-up modems years ago. In settings, performance, was already set on improve computer performance by suspending inactive tabs, but in advanced performance settings, was set to suspend inactive tabs after 30 minutes, never suspend 30 tabs, and all of the "never suspend" settings were on. I changed it to suspend inactive tabs immediately, never suspend 2 tabs, and all of the "never suspend" settings turned off.

Wow! Avast Secure Browser Pro suddenly became very fast! I'll have to wait and see if this continues, as it has been fast at times, then very slow again. I can now watch videos on CNN and post on YouTube, both of which I couldn't do before.

You might want to test for this problem by setting the settings as I did, and loading up as many groups with as many tabs as possible, and see if you can replicate the problem, then see if changing the settings as I did solves it. Even running privacy cleaner didn't help. (I never delete cookies, as it causes all of my logged-in sites to be logged out. Would like to be able to save the cookies I want in order to stay logged in, and delete the others. Is there a way to do this now? I also have Avast Cleanup Premium, so can I do so there?)

I was about to not-renew all of my Avast products over this issue, and you might have already lost customers over it. This might not solve the problem of specific web pages being very slow to load, however.

Joe :)

More info:

I tried opening pages immediately after opening browser, and it was slow. Then I closed browser, re-opened it, and it was fast again! Task manager showed browser using 2.6 mb/sec, then down to 0.2, at which time it was fast. Just waiting until everything loaded, 5-10 seconds, made the difference. Will once again see if this holds up tomorrow.

Hi Joe,

I asked my colleagues to check the issue you're describing.

Hey jkthomas1245, would you be able to provide some diagnostic info so we can investigate this further.

1. Open the browser and click on the menu icon (3 dots in upright corner)
2. Click on “Help and About Avast Secure Browser” and then “About Avast Secure Browser”
3. Click on “Diagnostic Information” (this will open a pop-up window)
4. Click the “COPY TO CLIPBOARD” button to capture the information and paste it here.
