Random disconnection from internet (PC)
« on: September 26, 2022, 06:43:14 PM »
Hello all,
Since a couple of days my internet connection stops. Nothing changed on my Win10 PC; no idea what it might be. When I restart the PC, the internet connection is up like normal.
When checking ethernet adapters it says that 'network cable not connected'
'Avast secure line Wintun adapter'. Wireguard adapter seems to react on VPN on or off so looks okay.
Could this have anything to do with it?
See attachment.
Cheers, Hugo

Hi,

The screenshot shows that you are using the new WireGuard adapter instead of the old Wintun Adapter.
Do you notice the random disconnection issue only when using Avast SecureLine VPN?
Do you have killswitch enabled in Avast SecureLine VPN? https://support.avast.com/article/63/#idt_3600

Thanks for reply. I have to check and understand those options.
Funny thing is 2 day no interruptions; might be the provider as well.
I'll get back at you asap.
Cheers,
Hugo

Hi,
Kill switch was not activated at the time. Still isn't for specific reason.
If Wintun adapter is obsolete, should I delete it or is that impossible?

I haven't contacted my provider, but if it happens again it's the first thing I do.
Another day with no hick-ups so I call it a day.

Regards,
Hugo

Hi,
Thanks for the update.
You do not have to delete it.
The Wintun adapter is used for the Mimic and Open VPN Protocol

Hi R@vast,
Well, whatever it was, it might never happen again.
Today my PC went dead. This after the GREAT Microsoft invited me to download new updates, which I did, that left me with a completely unbootable PC. Had to re-install the Win10 crap and now spending the rest of the night re-installing all my software.
Plus what it costs me. Well, at least Avast was a piece of cake. My Premiun and VPN installed in an instance including all the subscription codes. Gotta have to check if my passwords are still there. Guess not.
Regards,
Hugo

Check to see if Passwords (old) was installed. It isn't by default.

In the troubleshooting settings you can select Add/Modify Components to fix the problem.

Hi,

Generally, if you reinstall Windows all the Avast Passwords data would be on the old partition.
Once you have managed to add the Avast Passwords component, you can sync your data from the online backup you created. https://support.avast.com/en-ww/article/synchronize-passwords-across-devices/?option=pc#idt_010

Thanks. I could not find the sync option, but your post hinted me to look things up and the password option is now set up.

After my new win installment I had some internet disconnections as before, but now after some more days, all is fine. I am almost sure it was not Avast.

Thanks again and this topic can be closed.

Good news. :)
