Win32:SpywareX-gen trojan - help please
« on: October 02, 2022, 03:36:27 AM »
Avast blocked a threat to a website. I did a full virus scan and found it put Win32:SpywareX-gen trojan in quarantine. Since it's in quarantine, I would like to know if I need to do anything else and is my laptop okay to use? I do online banking and shopping. The reason I ask is because I ran Malwarebytes after, and it found 6 SpywareDanabot items. I quarantined them.

Edit to add: I checked the Notification History. It said We've moved portoutlibrary.dll to your quarantine because it was infected with Win32:SpywareX-gen [Trj]. I don't know if that and SpywareDanabot are connected.

I posted on Malwarebytes after I posted on here. I'm wondering if  portoutlibrary.dll, which resulted in Win32:SpywareX-gen, was really quarantined since Spyware.Danabot was found when I ran Malwarebytes. I first ran Avast, then I ran Malwarebytes. In other words, are they somehow connected?

You would have to check the quarantine for the file if it is there and not in the original location then it shouldn't be running.

However, since you didn't give details on what MBAM found, file name and location, there is nothing to compare.  They could be for related dormant files or no executable files.  That would be speculation.

It would be best to continue with the MalwareBytes forum and qualified malware removal specialists.

There used to be qualified malware removal specialists in this forum but the need for them got less and less.  In order for them to remain current and qualified they have to maintain their skills so slowly them moved to other forums where the need was greater.

I'm not sure what part the Really goes for as there were two points I made  ?
1.  Qualification requirement for malware removal specialists.  We used to have a Malware removal instructor, in essexboy, but he hasn't been active in just over two years.
or
2.  It has been some time since qualified malware removal specialists have been regulars in the Avast forums.

No problem.

You only have to visit the Viruses and Worms sub-forum to see:
Whilst there is a reasonable amount of activity (most of it unrelated to actually having an infection) it has been some time since any actual malware removal by a qualified malware removal specialist has been done.

Yes some of the qualified malware removal specialists do periodically visit, they don't appear to have any cleansing to be done. A lot of the listed names accounts are no longer present.  It's a bit of a shame, but they have to be active.

Thanks David, didn't realize.
Not that I spent significant time in that sub forum.
Appreciated  ;)
