External drive protected folders problem
« on: July 26, 2022, 09:55:27 AM »
Ransomware Shield in latest beta 22.7.6025 still only work on external drive protected folders if the drive is plugged in AFTER PC restart. Tested in Strict Mode. I hope Avast can fix this.

But unlike previous beta, it has a Recycle Bin for Windows deletion of files. The previous beta kept asking whether I want to delete permanently as if it is a thumb or flash drive.

I did a clean uninstall of Avast Free and installed this beta. Then I changed the settings manually including the Firewall App Rules. I then saved my Settings. When I restored the Settings, my external drive is not treated like a flash drive without Recycle Bin like before. So my conclusion is that each new version or beta cannot restore settings saved by previous version without problems. After each update, we have to save the settings again from the updated version to restore to the same version.

Avast Free Beta 22.10.6035 (build 22.10.7581.734) finally solved these two problems. Thank you.

I spoke too soon. Using Avast Beta 22.10.6036, this problem came back. I uninstalled it and tested by only installing the Firewall component. This problem persists so it is related to Firewall. Repair and Reset didn't solve the problem. So I had to uninstall Avast because the Recycle Bin for external hard drives is important to me.

After uninstalling Avast Free totally, I installed newer beta, 22.10.6038 (build 22.10.7633.734).

This problem has gone away but returned when I restored my settings backed up earlier. So this problem is caused by restoring settings backed up by previous beta. Maybe because newer version has new or changed settings which is incompatible with the settings backup earlier.

After I 'reset all settings to default' in Troubleshooting and rebooted, the problem went away again. Of course, I had to change my settings manually all over again.
