This is weird.

I've got build 22.10.6038, which I think I updated yesterday.

Today, the Avast interface window is its normal size but resolution within that window looks 640x480, even though my tower is set at 3840x2160 and everything else looks normal.

Did I find an ideosyncratic glitch or is this a known issue?

Can anyone who installed 22.10 on Windows 10 check their Advanced Windows Defender Firewall settings to see if the inbound rules for Avast UI (see attached screenshot) say "Allow" now or if they're still "blocked"? This was mentioned on the notes for the last Beta update with no additional info, and I installed the (possibly beta) update on my old laptop to try it out and it is updated to "Allow" and is green with a checkmark as the icon instead of the red prohibition symbol.

If you need to know how to get there, search "Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security," and when the screen pops up, go to Inbound rules on the left side and look for Avast UI. There should be one rule at least for TCP-In and UDP-In.

Hello,

WebShield Detection Dialog in Browser Get real-time threat alerts directly in your browser. - Not work in my Chrome, still Avast pop-up as before on Windows taskbar (Win 7 64bit).

Application update settings: "Ask when an update is available" never ask or notify, this settings not work for many years.

Hi,
  • New Smartscan Step We’ve added a whole new step to check your operating system settings for any security issues.
Where can we find this?
I ran the smartscan and I don't see any additional steps or references (in the existing steps) to checking my operating system.

FYI, I just checked Win 10 ADF settings for Avast UI (v22.10) and the TCP-in and UDP-in both have the green checkmark. Win 10 has latest patches installed.

Thanks. Updated to v22.10 just now and I have this setting in the Advanced Firewall Settings as well.

Since this  version copying data (mainly .jpg)  from my NAS (attached to my local netwerk) to my local desktop HD takes forever : ca. 40 Mb in 30 minutes?
If I switch off all Avast shields then the copying speed goes back to normal. Which shield should I diasable permanently in order to keep using Avast and have a normal copying speed?

There was a popup that told me a major update was available for my Avast Free. It was Avast One.

Is Avast One indeed the next version of Avast Free? Or is it yet another upsell tactic?

I certainly hope not.

Previously (when Avast One was released) Avast have said that Avast One isn't a replacement for Avast Antivirus, they are two different products.

The reason I installed Avast for its configurability.  Avast One doesn't have the same configurability (from what I can see) it has different components which aren't full versions, which may lead to offers for Avast One (paid) and not for Avast One Essentials (aka Avast One Free).

Personally I would resist the offer, if you tried it and didn't like what it offered, you would have to do a clean reinstall to get back to Avast Antivirus.

Note I haven't seen this offer, but my renewal for avast antivirus isn't for a few months.

I almost clicked the update button before realising Avast pulls these stunts often.

I already have a VPN and a firewall, so I fear Avast One would conflict.

Note: it wasn't really presented as an offer. It looked like an update for Avast Free. It's so sad that the upselling has become so agressive. Even experienced users have to look twice before clicking anything. Shouldn't you just have to be able to trust your AV to not be sneaky like this??

Well if it was for Avast One (Essentials) then technically it isn't upselling as its free :)

However, who knows if you would then be offered the full fat Avast One, paid version.
