Still 20% of the security aware has unpatched software
« on: December 22, 2007, 04:39:15 PM »
Hi malware fighters,

Very critical to have the latest versions of your software and the latest patches against vulnerabilities installed. Still Secunia found 20% of the more security aware users still had unpatched versions of sotware on their computers. You can easily check this with PSI, a free download from here:

Cybersecurity is more of an attitude than anything else. Avast Evangelists.

Use NoScript, a limited user account and a virtual machine and be safe(r)!

Given the rate at which patches are released and the number of software the average user runs, 20% is really really low. Heck I use the java applet version itself (which checks only a subset of apps - but more important ones), for patches, and it finds patches all the time (relating to flash for example)...

For some reason the autoupdaters are often not working or much slower  (if available).....

Also I think a lot of the apps you find with the software version is not so important as the main ones relating to browser, email etc.. Sure they are serious vulnerabilities, but very very low chance some one would target them.
