New browser version 108.0
« on: December 09, 2022, 01:37:03 PM »
Hello ASB community,

We’re pleased to announce that we have released a new version of Avast Secure Browser (ASB) for Windows - version 108.0.

This version includes a major Chromium update including the latest patch, new improvements and fixes, including the following:
  • Auto-connect for our built-in VPN, MP4 files playing, Bank Mode issues, etc.
  • Improved NTP tooltips for most widgets, so that the user gets clearer information on each of the widgets.
  • Improved NTP user interface when backgrounds are enabled.
  • Other minor design changes and fixes that increase browser stability and improve user experience.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How to get this latest version
If you have ASB already installed, it should be updated automatically (feel free to visit 'secure://settings/help' to trigger an update faster)
Alternatively, you can download and install ASB from our official site:
https://download.avastbrowser.com/external/avast_secure_browser_setup.exe

We hope you enjoy the changes we have made, and as always we would love to hear your feedback. Please try our Browser also on your other devices. Besides the Windows version, ASB is also available on iOS, Android and MacOS platforms and with the Avast sync, you can synchronise the settings on all of them. You can download the MacOS version here, more information for iOS see here (English locales only), and for Android here or go straight to the App Store or Google Play Store.

Avast is telling us that we cannot get updates for Avast Secure Browser unless we buy Windows 10.
Like all Win7 users, we like our Win7 and have no intention of getting Windows 10.
IS THIS an Avast policy not to support Win7 or is it microsoft policy?
How long do we have before our Avast Secure Browser fails on Win7?  it is running 108.0.19614.99.
We recently purchased Avast Ultimate 2 year subscription but now will have to cancel Avast and get a refund because of no Win7 support.

Windows 7 will no longer be supported under Chromium based browsers.
Secure Browser is Chromium based as are Edge, and Chrome along with many others.
It isn't an Avast policy. Old computer eventually loose support because they become
incapable of supporting new technology. (Just as I can no longer run a marathon. Just a fact of life.)

Hello,

as already Bob mentioned above, Google is sunsetting support for Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 starting with the Chromium 110 release. Since our Secure Browser is Chromium based (like many other browsers on the market), we will follow Google's policy. Here is the link to the statement: https://support.google.com/chrome/thread/185534985/sunsetting-support-for-windows-7-8-8-1-in-early-2023?hl=en

If you decide to stay on Win7, you can still use the actual Secure Browser version and the following one (109.0) with the Avast Ultimate 2-year subscription but you will no longer get updates.

I don't mind not receiving updates and I am in similar situation as wecreate16.
Is there a hidden option or file setting I can edit to not receive the following notification?

"To get future Avast Secure Browser update, you'll need Windows 10 or later.  This computer is using Windows 8.1."

Hi,

I asked our development team to implement a change so that you don't get the ribbon every time you run the browser. I will get back to you with an update on this topic.

Hi,

just to keep you updated: we are working now on the implementation of a button for the ribbon, that will hide this message. This change should be included in one of the upcoming releases.
