Google search on Chrome causing Avast threat warning every time
« on: January 07, 2023, 11:26:34 PM »
Hi everyone - hoping I can get some advice on this please.
I use Google Chrome and every time I do do a search, either in the web bar or within the google website, I get an Avast pop up saying:

WEB THREAT SECURED
We've blocked a threat URL:Blacklist on https://exampleroi.com/jumbleoflettersandnumbers.js from being downloaded

In the details underneath, in 'process' it says something about Google Chrome Helper.

I have tried deleting and reinstalling Chrome, I have cleared all of my cookies and data. I don't seem to have any strange looking plug ins.
I don't know what to do to stop it.

Thanks

What version of Avast?

This might be spyware messing with DNS or the hosts file.

I would make a note of Chrome extensions you need, then remove them and see if that stops the issue.
You can then add extensions you need one at a time, confirming no adverse behaviour after each one.

You can then add extensions you need one at a time, confirming no adverse behaviour after each one.
You could also disable all extensions and then bring them back (re-enable) one at a time to track down
the extension that may be causing this.
