I upgraded to Avast Premium and downloaded the premium and cleaner. After I installed them both and ran the cleaner, all of my desktop icons now only launch Firefox (which is the browser I was using) even though their names (like Adobe Reader, etc) are still there. If I try to run the .exe files directly from File Explorer I get the pop-up that says it doesn't know what program to use to run this type of file. This computer is still running Windows 7 (don't judge - its my 87 year old father-in-law's and he doesn't want to change it). I tried a resetting the registry to default but no change. It seems like I somehow downloaded a virus or malware when I downloaded the program. Any suggestions? Should I just call Geek Squad? I'm not very knowledgeable about this type of thing and don't have much time to spend on it. Thanks!
