Avast Secure Browser starts by itself.
« on: February 05, 2023, 01:26:14 PM »
Hello.
I have Avast Secure Browser Version 109.0.19987.120 (Official Build) (64-bit) on Windows 11 Pro.
Every time I turn on or restart my computer Avast opens automatically after about 45 seconds by itself and is very annoying.
I have checked in the "Task Manager" of Windows "Startup Applications" and it is not enabled.
I have gone to "Settings" of Avast Secure Browser and I have disabled "Start Avast Security Browser automatically when I turn on my computer".
But with every reboot or startup of the computer, it keeps opening itself.
Someone could help me?
Thank you.

Good morning.
Yes, this information was exactly what I was asking for. So far, I was not successful in re-creating your issue, but I am still working on it. Meanwhile, there is also a possible explanation, that I would also like to check.

If you change the default browser, and restart your computer again, does ASB still launches on startup, or does the new default browser start instead? In case it would be the new browser, that would imply, that another application is trying to access the internet.
I am sorry for not having any better news for now, I hope I find the issue soon.

Thanks for answering Jakub171.
I have put Google Chrome as the default browser, I have also tried with the Edge browser and after a while, it can be 1 minute or 15 minutes or whatever time it is, Avast Secure Browser opens by itself.
The default browser, be it Chrome or Edge, only open automatically, for example if I receive an email in my email manager and click on a link that contains an email.
Thank you very much for your interest in my case.
All the best.
Martha.

SOLVED.
Hello.
The problem with the browser opening by itself is that it had the "LockPW" extension installed. It is an extension that requires a password to be opened in order to open the browser.
I have disabled the said extension and Avast Secure Browser no longer starts by itself on startup, restarting the computer.
Greetings.
