There is a toolbar that installs if you opt in for the "WSG" part of SpywareTerminator. I personally wouldn't install that - don't like toolbars - but it's down to user preference.

You have no choice, you must install it :( I prefer SAS/AVG.

I didn't have to install any toolbar when I used it, I just unchecked the toolbar option during the installation.

  • If at first you don’t succeed; call it version 1.0

Wrong. You have every choice. You have to "opt in" to install WSG. (Same with Clam AV, also available to be integrated.) Just don't install it, no issue.

I tried Super AntiSpyware and while it worked well, seemed slow to me.  I still use AVG (EWIDO) free and might try Spyware Terminator if I can be assured being able to not install the toolbar and web guard etc.

jwall -

As noted by others above, you are given the option to install ...  or not install ... the toolbar and clamAV. All you have to do is pay attention to what you are clicking when asked during the installation process.

I installed the new version of ST without WSG or Clam AV without problems.
I switched to ST from Windows Defender.

Look at this:

http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,136206/article.html  :-*

AVG Anti-Spyware is rated "very good", Spybot Search & Destroy is rated "poor"!

Great article, I love and trust pc world but what works on one pc don't neccesary work good on another. I have windows defender that came with Vista and it scans nightly and spywareblaster and winpatrol installed. I got rid of Superantipspyware cause it was set to scan and wouldn't and I tried spyware doctor, it slow my pc and stopped my internet connection so I just let windows defender run in real time and run a-squared free,(http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free/) to scan for malware.

I will give SUPERAntispyware a try, but a-squared? I think it is the master of false positives, also see: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=28526.0  :-\

Okay thanks but did you read the whole thing, that was corrected, Spybot Search & Destroy  gave me false  positives and wouldn't update, but I have heard great things about it on other forums. I guess there is something about all programs. I guess its up to each individual.
