Avast somehow stuck and can't uninstall
« on: March 08, 2023, 07:47:35 PM »
Hi, I'd appreciate some help woth my Avast Free. It's not responding to clicks and won't open. I tried to uninstall using my Windows 10 Uninstall Programs, but it won't and I get a box asking if I want to update. I'm trying to uninstall and reinstall, can anyone tell me how to do this please?

Thank you Pondus, neither of them worked as I couldn't open it to start. Last desperate attempt , I loaded Safe Mode and it uninstalled from that. I've just put Total AV Free on, seems ok.

Your computer, your choice. Certainly not mine. :)

Wotcha Bob... not a fan of Total AV? Please tell me more as I freely admit I don't know anything about it, only that it was voted no1 on a review page I discovered.

I've used Avast since 2003 and am perfectly happy with the protection it's offered over all those years.
Since this is the Avast Support forum, it's hardly the place to discuss another companies product.

Both of you are completely correct, and apologies for my lack of discretion. I've now returned to Avast and regards to you both.

You're welcome.

Presumably you were able to get past the problem with the win10 control panel or did you just click the update - which is strange as I also use Win10 and the control panel add remove programs in regards of Avast has worked fine for me - usually that has been using the Change/Modify Function. Just used it to remove a component.

Hopefully it is now performing as it should.

Hello David, it all began with somehow me interrupting an Avast update, which led to everything misbehaving. As I said, I removed Avast via Safe Mode, then installed the first one I came across. Soon came to my senses and re-installed Avast...computers eh!
Regards
Andy
