Avast Premium Security 24.2 breaks network shares

I also noticed - still with this version - that the various scans were slow to start (blocked at 0% for 2 or 3 minutes).

however, my 2 other devices on W10 22H2 also block access to the network.

Not interested, maybe Avast should do a better job testing the new releases first!
Every computer that has the update and is on a network has been broken by Avast..
Not talking about just my network...

I agree with you and you mimicked my sentiment as I e-mailed them with this exacting tone, at first I thought that my e-mail had been published.  You are not alone, I was just as angry when I realized it was the antivirus software causing my networking issues.  Not only that but the network and internet traffic has slowed considerably.

Wanted to thank you for sharing what setting needed to be disabled in order for things to work properly again, and wanted to know you weren't the only one who had this kind of reaction.  Things should be tested before released, this was ridiculous.

The only way to fix the problem is to turn off "Enable Samba Protection"

Can you be more specific about the solution?

Where did you uncheck the Samba protection?

Did you reboot your system afterwards?


As far as I'm concerned, I've tried on my 3 networked devices (W7, W10, W10) to uncheck "Enable Samba Protection" in  "remote access shield" settings but I cannot find the shared folders/files even though I ping the devices correctly.

edit:
I've just seen that by accepting "allow sharing of incoming files and printers via the SMB protocol" for public networks ... the sharing works again.

But that's strange because it would mean that my network is considered to be public when it isn't.

Hello, just an update about the original issue - I believe we have found the culprit. It should be patched as soon as the fix is properly tested.

Now on to the rest of the issues.

The only way to fix the problem is to turn off "Enable Samba Protection"

It took me a while to find what was wrong as 20+ PCs in my network suddenly stopped sharing folders... I've found relatively quickly that the Remote Acces Shield was to blame, started unchecking one by one the checkboxes and obviously when I unchecked Samba Protection my network started working as it should.

My only regret is that this bug give a lot of satisfaction to those who worship Windows Defender...
