Recently Explorer crashes with ntdll.dll

Hi all, we just released a fix that will be effective in the program version 23.8. (micro update 791).

If you are already on the version 23.8, please go to - Menu - Settings - General - Update - click the second CHECK FOR UPDATES button - and restart the computer.

If you are currently using one of the older program versions, please update the app to version 23.8, reboot the device and then follow the steps above. In total, you'll need to reboot the computer twice to ensure the update is applied.

Please let us know if it worked.

Unfortunately, I'm not getting the "291 micro-update" here so far... Still on 23.8.8416.290 after clicking "UPDATE PROGRAM" and reboot.

How to proceed ?

Same on my system Avast Free:
Release date reported as - on 16 August 2023 23.8.6078 (build 23.8.8416.790).
Manual program reports the program is up to date.

OK I just got the 791 micro-update after a second reboot.

I too have finally got. the 791 micro-update I have done 3 restarts in all today.

Hi AVAST Team,

After a quite intensive testing with the 791 micro-update, it seems to be all OK SO FAR !!! 

I'll report back in case the pb occurs again.

The error ist there again 

I had reverted to an older version (Avast completely uninstalled and reinstalled V 22.12.7758.0 from an offline installer from November 2022). Since then, the error has not occurred once. (However, my PC sometimes seemed to respond a bit sluggishly, a problem I had noticed annoyingly some time ago, possibly an effect of this old version.)

But today, even though I had set the program updates to manual, Avast reported that it had updated: Now I have Version 23.9.6082 Build 23.9.8494.792.
– Not even half an hour later the error occurred again!
Now I have clear proof that it is indeed due to Avast and unfortunately I have to see that the bug has still not been fixed.

I can confirm the Explorer crash occurs again but not on the exactly same conditions.

It appears this time it happens here always (when it happens) while right clicking on a desktop icon (Recycle Bin for example).

Could likely be linked to the Avast shell extension as mentioned in an other post...

Also for those that haven't got it yet version 23.9.6082 (build 23.9.8494.792) has been released.

I would suggest that you update to that and restart.  Does the issue still exist  ?

I have right clicked on many desktop Icons for: Recycle Bin, Google Chrome, Thunderbird and Avast icon (wheels spinning for a short while on this one) and no issues.

Same here, manuel update since months and today it automatically updated to 23.9.6082 !!!!

ntdll.dll issue too (win7)

Now everytime i access to computer management console, it creates an error in windows application logs

EventID 1000, application error
Faulting application name: CompMgmtLauncher.exe, version : 6.1.7600.16385
