Recently Explorer crashes with ntdll.dll

Since mid-July I get Explorer.exe crashes on several computers for no apparent reason:
Problem Event Name: BEX64
Application Name: explorer.exe
Fault Module Name: ntdll.dll
Exception Code: c000000d

The only system changes I've made recently on all machines are browser updates and updating Avast Free Antivirus.

While searching Internet forums, I found someone who currently has the same problem. All affected computers have only the following in common:
Windows 7 x64
Avast version 23.6.6070 build 23.6.8271.788 from June 20, 2023

Therefore, I think it is very likely that Avast is the reason for the Explorer crashes.
Do other users of Windows 7 (yes, EOL, I know...) have similar problems recently?

Edit: Avast updated today to version 23.7.6074 build 23.7.8348.762 from July 20, 2023.

It is possible that some update is not installed in the operating system. On windows 7, it is better to abandon the automatic update of avast modules. The easiest way is to roll back the system and disable automatic updates of avast modules.

Windows System Restore is unpredictable. I would rather not reset my system to a state from over 5 weeks ago.
Is there a trusted download source for older Avast versions?

Is it really advisable to suspend the Avast program updates?

Module updates are not very important. They contain bug fixes, new bugs with new functionality. You can live for years without these updates. The main thing is antivirus databases. The main protection is in them. They should be as fresh as possible.

At the moment, the error occurs very rarely, so it is hardly possible to see if any action has helped.
I would also have expected more Avast/Windows7 users to report the same problem here, but this is not the case. It seems to occur only under certain circumstances.
Maybe it was just due to problematic virus definitions that disappear with the next update. I'll just wait and see.

I confirm having the very same issue here on my win7 (fully updated) partition.

The problem seems to occur while browsing with the explorer window through directories.

It would be REALLY GREAT this problem to be sorted out by AVAST in the next update.

I have the same problem occasionally for quite some time now in Explorer.exe and Total Commander 10 (64bit), but I'm not sure if Avast is causing it. I would like to solve the problem.

Hi,
I thought I would report that I have Windows 7 64 bit SP1 and have not had this Explorere.exe problem with Avast through version 23.7.

I have not updated to the latest version, however, because of problems mentione here in the forum with the latest version also checking for outdated drivers. I will post my concern in another thread.

Hope you find a solution for the Explorer.exe issue!
