i have malware in my pictures, & no clue how to get rid of it.
« on: October 06, 2008, 01:13:23 AM »
i just downloaded avast a few days ago. (after going a good 2 months without any type of protection). and i ran a virus check and everything and nothing came up. but today i was just going through my windows picture gallery, and then all of a sudden i started getting all these warning messages (from avast) telling me that i have malware in like 20 of my pictures. and avast advised me to move these filed to me 'virus chest', so i did. but now i have no idea how to go about getthing the malware out of the pictures, without deleting the pictures.

help?

What is the malware name given by avast, the infected file name, full path to where was it found e.g. (malware name, C:\windows\system32\infected-file-name.xxx) ?

Check the avast! Log Viewer (right click the avast 'a' icon), Warning section, this contains information on all avast detections.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.4.6112 (build 24.4.9067.762) UI 1.0.803/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

 :)  Hi :

Nowadays more than an antiVIRUS program should be used because there are
very few, if any, "viruses" nowadays. So it is best to "supplement" the
protection Avast provides by using at least 2 antiSPYWARE/antiTROJAN
programs and currently the best 2 are : 1) the FREE Version of
"SUPERAntiSpyware" from www.superantispyware.com ; 2) the "FREE" Version
 of "Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware" from www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php .
Installing, Updating, and running the "Full Scan" of each of these 2 would be
a very good "2nd Opinion" as to IF your Pictures are "infected" !?

Welcome to the forums,  missrobinson.   :)

Please tell us your OS and when the last time you applied Windows Updates to your computer.

I ask this because, according to this Microsoft Security Bulletin MS04-028, you are missing at least this security update.
