How do I delete websites under my search bar?
« on: October 06, 2023, 09:37:05 AM »
I have repeatedly tried to delete my history and browsing data.

Every time I return to my home screen I continue to get a dropdown box of my previous searches, including some that I do not want showing there  :(.

How do I delete these?

Is the Avast anti-virus software impeding me in some way?

Insufficient information to really help.

What is your/the browser this is happening on ?
Does this happen on all browsers  ?

As far as I'm aware there is no specific function in Avast Antivirus to prevent this.

Most browsers in there settings can clear browser history and or cookies, etc. what are you trying that doesn't work ?

My default browser if Firefox, clicking the Three bars, gives options for History and Recent History and it can be cleared.  Chrome based browsers the Three Dots takes you to settings, but I don't use Chrome.

I am working in Chrome and Edge and am still getting all the same previous historical websites I have searched.

If I started with Amazon I keep getting all the other websites I have searched starting with Amazon.

it is as easy as doing a google search ... how to clear surf history in (browser name)
if you do the same search at youtube you will find videos that will show you how to do it

In all major Internet browsers (e.g., Chrome, Edge, Firefox, IE, Opera), pressing Ctrl + Shift + Delete opens the Clear browsing data window to quickly clear private data and history

On a chromebook it is ctrl + shift + backspace

Are you going into the Chrome Settings options and clearing History as you don't say ?

See these search results in what you are trying to achieve - https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=clear+browsing+history+in+Chrome - instructions at the very top of the returned data.  There should be a way to restrict what it saves and for how long, but I don't like Chrome, never have so I really don't use it.

In my Firefox Settings > Privacy & Security there is a section on History and it's quite extensive, I would be surprised if there isn't something similar in Chrome (image 1) & Edge.

I ran Chrome (117.0.5938.134 at the time of checking) just to confirm opened Settings and simply typed History into the search bar, image 2 and 3.
This triggered an update, one of the reasons I don't like Chrome, if I wanted to update it I would have done it.  I guess I will have to find how to prevent auto updates.

So I really don't know what it is that you are doing.
