Does the Avast One App need to remain open?

I just downloaded and installed Avast One on both my MacBook and iPhone, do I need to leave the Avast app open on both? I could not find any mention of this here on the forum.

If you want them both protected, it needs to be on.

The program is always running in the background, that is what an on-access antivirus scanner does.

If by Open you mean does the User Interface (UI) have to remain Open in order to work, that would be No, only when you need to access the UI.

Yes, that is what I meant, the User Interface. I assumed I could close it, but I'm not very good at this stuff and wanted to make sure. Thanks!!!
