The new version is presumably 24.1 and has been available for some days.

With this setting, I always get notified when an update is available.

Do you mean that with that setting ("Remind me...") you can always choose whether to update or not, while with the other setting ("I'll update it manually") some updates are inevitable?

Both settings are basically the same. "Remind me when an update is available" just gives you a pop up letting you know sometimes.

Exactly this friend:
A pop-up will appear and it will be very annoying.
and the other will update when you want to add it.

Note: he said something very interesting:
"while with the other configuration ("I'll update it manually") some updates are unavoidable?"

A popup your requested is never annoying. It simply lets me know when there is a update available.
To answer manziller's other question, NO it does not prevent emergency updates.

... NO it does not prevent emergency updates.

Thanks for your answer.

So some kind of notification about those "emergency updates", which overcome any user settings and cannot be cancelled or postponed in any way, would still be welcome and useful, filling a little (but significant)... gap in the user interface.
