Threat Secured message keeps appearing
« on: January 16, 2024, 11:17:20 PM »
The attached screen shot shows the message I keep receiving today on my Windows laptop. So far, the Avast smart scan does not find any issues. I am also running a deep scan with Avast and Kaspersky, but they are not done yet.
Note that when I do a search in Chrome, it keeps re-directing me to Bing search, even though Google is my selected search engine in Chrome.
Can someone help me?

So you have avast and kaspersky installed, and run scan with both at the same time?

Try clear Your browser history

In all major Internet browsers (e.g., Chrome, Edge, Firefox, IE, Opera), pressing Ctrl + Shift + Delete opens the Clear browsing data window to quickly clear private data and history

Does it still happen?
- If so try starting your browser with apps disabled.

Does it still happen?
If not, one of your browser add-ons would appear to be connecting to this site.
Now it is a bit of a pain, disabling one app at a time to find it.
Start with any app recently added and or apps recently updated.

Thanks for the tips! I was able to find the culprit: a Chrome extension called "Floating Player - Picture in Picture." I disabled it and the threat messages disappeared.

BTW, I usually use Avast, but since it didn't find anything, I installed Kaspersky to see what it could find (and it did find a couple of infections that Avast did not find).

Recomended extra scanner:
Malwarebytes free
Malwarebytes Adwcleaner

Mind you, whenever following Pondus' advice etc.

N.B.

When using MBAM's information proposed by qualified cleansers on their forums.
Mind that as a user you cannot merely copy a cleansing routine.
They are just wrought for that specific unique user.
Do not copy cleansing routine performances (only guided by qualified malware cleansers),
else you may seriously harm your devicde and operational system.

Avast forum used to have qualified malware cleansers as volunteers, but do not have them in their ranks anymore now.
Only advice on volunteer third party cold recon website analysis and error-hunting can be given here.
