unable to disable automatic VPN
« on: April 09, 2024, 06:58:53 AM »
VPN keeps on starting automatically.
IN my settings under VPN secure connection, there is this option on:
Automatically turn on VPN .... When connecting to untrusted networks
I cannot disable this option.

Whilst I don't used a VPN, Avast or Other, so I can't speak from personal experience.

Surely the time when you would want a VPN enabled is when you are connected to untrusted networks.

Try this https://support.avast.com/en-gb/article/secureline-vpn-faq/#pc or https://support.avast.com/en-gb/article/219/#pc

Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.4.6112 (build 24.4.9067.762) UI 1.0.803/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

Is your home network an 'untrusted network'?
Windows 10 Home 64-bit 22H2 Avast Premier Security version 24.1.6099 (build 24.1.88821.762)  UI version 1.0.797

None of the options worked. I'm getting crazy. I need to switch off the VPN manually. Evenry time I connect the laptop to my hotspot it automatically connects to VPN. Does somebody knows how I can ask support to avast? I've spent already 3 days about an hour but everywhere I tried I get to stupid automatic answers.
I think Ill need to disinstall Avast and move to something that let me control my own laptop.

What is a 'hotspot'?  Is it 'public' or 'private':  https://www.howtogeek.com/795007/what-is-a-mobile-hotspot/

More details will always help.  Not at all clear if you are in Windows environment or other.

What is public/private network?  https://www.howtogeek.com/245982/whats-the-difference-between-private-and-public-networks-in-windows/

Why are public networks 'untrusted'?  https://fossbytes.com/types-of-networks-trusted-untrusted-and-unknown-networks/  The Internet is an untrusted network.

An analogy:  https://superuser.com/questions/447483/why-is-the-internet-said-to-be-an-untrusted-network#447493

If the network you've set up is 'public' Avast VPN is working as it should.

Private networks are normally 'home' or 'corporate' internal networks.  All networked devices can nominally see each other.  Public networks are usually found in airports, malls, bookstores, restaurants.

We need to know what type of network connection you have in order to proceed.  Is it Windows?  Or other?
