BIOS might be infected?
« on: June 10, 2024, 10:22:45 AM »
Hi guys.

I am new to the forum and this is my first post. I am hoping I might be able to get some help.

So I have a laptop, which I think might have gotten infected with a nasty virus. When I turn it on it just shows a black screen and nothing else. I have tried booting windows 10 install from an usb. I tried flashing the bios from usb. No success. I am able to enter the bios settings. There I can see the boot order and it says windows boot up, but it also says ubuntu boot up? I have never installed ubuntu on this laptop so that's weird. I try changing the boot order (even disabled everything and deleted all boot orders), but it just keeps resetting to the way it was, before I changed the settings. (Yes I made sure I saved changes and exited bios only then.) Could this be a virus or is my laptop misbehaving, because of hardver failure? Is there anyway to save this laptop, if the bios is infected?

Thanks for the help in advance and sorry for any grammar mistakes.

I would say hardware failure, why? because malware want your computer to work and go online so it can do the malicious stuff it was designed to do. Yes sometimes the malware code is badly written and can create failiure.

Anyway there is little malware or windows error help to get here in this forum so i recomend you try Malwarebytes forum or Bleepingcomputer forum where they work with stuff like this all day
