Avast Ubuntu 7.10 problems
« on: December 01, 2007, 08:27:28 PM »
When I open Avast I get the following error messages:

can't open file '/home/pablo/.avast/avastrc' (error 13: Permission denied)
can't open user configuration file '/home/pablo/.avast/avastrc'.
Failed to inspect the lock file '/home/pablo/.avast/lockfile-pablo' (error 2: No such file or directory)
Unable to detect whether another instance of avast! is running.

Have done something wrong? Please help!

Pablo

If you boot, will it happen again?
How are you starting avast? Using sudo?

If I reboot it's the same. Launching from Applications --- Accesories.
If I run su avast from terminal Avast begins to scan without problem.

Seems to be a root/sudo issue... Sorry I'm not an expert on Linux.

Hallo,

is avast really installed under that user (~ that runs the X session)? Is user "pablo" able to start avastgui from terminal?

I have a worse problem with my installation.  After I installed it using the deb download, I can't find the program in the application menu or any menu for that matter.  I'm new to Linux, so perhaps some one could tell me how to quickly at Avast to my application menu.

These commands will install avast!'s icons&links into the Applications > Accessories > avast! Antivirus menu.
cd /usr/lib/avast4workstation/share/avast/desktop && sudo ./install-desktop-entries.sh install

I must be an ultra-newbie.  I have the same problem as nragone.  My problem goes deeper though.  I do not understand the answer that Tech gave.  Where do I enter the commands so that the links and icons show up?  Sorry I am so green (I have about 3 hours experience) needless to say everything is new.  Thanks.

Cut and paste the commands into a terminal window:

Quote
Applications Menu Setup

or this you need to run a script from the following location

cd /usr/lib/avast4workstation/share/avast/desktop

sudo ./install-desktop-entries.sh install

This will complete the application menu setup.

If you want to access you need to go to Applications—>Accessories—>avast!Antivirus
