Virus scanner hangs in System Volume Information
« on: February 04, 2008, 07:48:25 PM »
I've been trying to run a virus scan of my entire system, without success.  The scanner starts fine, with the "Last scanned" box showing different folders and the disk access light on my computer showing lots of accesses.

After a while, though, it stops making progress.  The little indicator next to the "Last scanned" window still moves, but the disk access light goes out and the folder name in the "Last scanned" box never changes after that.

After a lot of unproductive twiddling, I started creating logs of the scans, including files that checked out as OK.  Scans on three different partitions all hung immediately after checking the same system file.  Here is the last line from one of the log files:

E:\System Volume Information\MountPointManagerRemoteDatabase
  • is OK

I've done full virus scans of my system in the past.  What is stopping the scanner now, and how do I work around it?

Thanks for any info.
