No, I don't need the combofix log this time. It's late here, I'll put up the viewpoint instructions in the morning. We have one file to get rid of. We might as well do that now, before it causes problems.

Open HJT, run a system scan only, check mark these lines if present

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Dot1XCfg] C:\Program Files\Dot1XCfg\Dot1XCfg.exe

Close all other browsers/windows, click fix, close HJT.

Please download the OTMoveIt2 by OldTimer.

Save it to your desktop.

Please double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it.

Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

C:\Program Files\Dot1XCfg\Dot1XCfg.exe

Return to OTMoveIt2, right click in the "Paste List of Files/Folders to be Moved" window (under the light blue bar) and choose Paste.

Click the red Moveit! button.

Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar) to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy), and paste it in your next reply.

Close OTMoveIt2

If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

NOTE: If OTMOVEITE reboots, before you can get the ruslts they can be found here
 C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles\********_******.log
(where "********_******" is the "date_time")

1) Right-click on the clock in your taskbar and choose Task Manager
2) Click on the Processes tab and search for VIEWMGR.EXE,ViewpointService.exe  or similar if its found, click on it and then click End Task to close it
3) Click on Start, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs
4) Uninstall any of the following programs associated with Viewpoint

Viewpoint Manager
Viewpoint Media Player
Viewpoint Toolbar

5) Close the Add/Remove Programs and Control Panel

6) Open HJT, run a system scan only, check mark these lines if present

O2 - BHO: Viewpoint Toolbar BHO - {A7327C09-B521-4EDB-8509-7D2660C9EC98} - C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Toolbar\3.8.0\ViewBarBHO.dll
O3 - Toolbar: Viewpoint Toolbar - {F8AD5AA5-D966-4667-9DAF-2561D68B2012} - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Viewpoint\Toolbar Runtime\3.8.0\IEViewBar.dll
 O23 - Service: Viewpoint Manager Service - Viewpoint Corporation - C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Common\ViewpointService.exe

Close all other browsers/windows, click fix, close HJT.

7) Restart your computer

Open a new Notepad session (Do not use a Word Processor or WordPad). Click "Format" and be certain that Word Wrap is not enabled.

Copy and paste all the text in the quote box below into Notepad.

Click File, Save as..., and set the location to your Desktop, and enter (including quotation marks) as the filename: "CFscript.txt" . Using your mouse left button, drag the new file CFscript.txt and drop it on the ComboFix.exe icon as shown at the bottom of this post.

Quote
Folder::
C:\Program Files\Viewpoint
C:\Program Files\Dot1XCfg

DirLook::
C:\Temp

This will start ComboFix again.Close  all browser/windows first. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HJT log.

I missed a folder, so remove the following folder with OTMOVEIT

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Viewpoint

Everything looks good here, how is it there?

I meant to ask you about Norton (symantec), did you uninstall it previiously?

OTMoveIt2 v1.0.18 log created on 02072008_182539

I used to have Norton, then switched to Avast.

Things here seem very good - NO MORE POP-UPS!!!!!  My PC seems to be running fine - not at all sluggish as it was before.  I still have not emailed anyone as I would not want to infect anyone.  Am I finally clean???   ???

I would say you are clean. I'll give you some clean up items to do and if you tell me what version of norton you had, I'll post a removal tool. There are still some traces left. Let me know before you start the clean up as HJT can be useful.

1.Click the start button, click run, in the run box copy and paste this line, click ok

combofix /u

2. double-click OTMoveIt.exe to run it, then click the Clean Up button. You may get prompted by your firewall that OTMoveIt wants to contact the internet -  allow this.  A cleanup.txt will be downloaded, a message dialog will ask you if you want to proceed with the cleanup process, click Yes. This will delete all the tools you have downloaded plus itself.

3. Create a new restore point

You must be logged on to an administrator account
Go to Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Restore.
Click Create a restore point, and then click Next.
In the text box labeled Restore Point Description, type a name for this restore point , click create

4. Remove old restore points

- Go to Start - All Programs - Accessories - system tools. Launch the Disk Cleanup tool and let it run. When it finishes a box with tabs will appear, select the more options tab. On this tab you will find a section for System Restore. If you press the Clean Up button for that section, Windows will delete all restore points except for the most recent one.

5. Open an Internet Explorer (only) window and go to http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp > Scroll down to "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 4...allows end-users to run Java applications".

Click the download button on the right.

 > If Information Bar pop-ups up, right-click on it and say it's OK to display the blocked content.

You do not have to install the Java Web Start ActiveX Control

Accept the license agreement > Click on Windows (XP,Vista, .etc) Offline Installation, Multi-language and Save the file jre-6u4-windows-i586-p.exe to your desktop; do not Run it.

When the download is complete, Open Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs:

Uninstall anything that says Sun Java, Java JRE, or similar.

Close Add/Remove Programs.

In Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\Program Files\Java <=this folder, if found. Delete any subfolders it may contain.

Do NOT delete C:\Program Files\JavaVM <=this folder, if found!

Reboot your computer.

Double-click on the saved file to install the update.

Delete the downloaded installation file after completing the above procedure  and reboot if not prompted to do so.

6.Download and run this clean up utility. You can use it regularly. When it's first run, it is in demo mode to show you what it will remove. Review it and then rerun in real mode. It is configurable.

CleanUp

7. If you are using windows firewall, please note that it doesn't provide outbound protection. A third party firewall will.

A discussion on free firewalls can be found here.

Hi Oldman,
I really don't know what version of Norton - but got it with the computer and that was April of 04 (if that helps - sorry).

Very glad to hear I'm clean  8)

I will start the clean-up using the instructions you posted in about an hour  - Not sure what us mean by 'Let me know before you start the clean up as HJT can be useful."  Will wait to hear from you.

I would say that it's version 2004. You can get the removal tool from this link.

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

I meant that HJT can be useful in cleaning up any reg keys that the removal tol misses. But we can always download it again. I will assist you if you wish. OTMOVEIT can also be useful, but the folders if they remain can be manually deleted.
