« on: February 10, 2008, 01:46:18 AM »
Hi
I puled out one of my old computers running windows 2000. I am posting this from my macbook. The system is running slow, and has updated Avast!. IE was never used. Onley downloads were firefox and Avast!. This system was my relatives machine. He had it changed around by a technition.I.E to add bios pass and make me not an admin. I think he loaded the virus on purpose.  Now the system is mine again. the issue:

SERVICES.exe 100%cpu

the system:
PIII 500
256mb RAM
Win2k SP4
Updated Avast.

Thank You.

AH! It is not a virus! It is the windows service manager, and MS released a report on it.
Amasing what a google search will do!

Keylogger programs can be a b---- to remove due to their stealth nature.

Sorry I can't be much help except to give a suggestion. If you can find the name of the key logger, there may be some removal instructions via google.

A hijackthis log may reveal the name of the logger.

  • Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
  • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
  • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
  • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
  • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Halio drrobotnik,

Better install this service pack for your OS:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/260910/EN-US/

This will make that OS much more secure, but follow oldman's instructions first before installing it,
services.exe can be related to malware in some cases,

pozdrawiam,
