Virus chest server...
« on: February 16, 2008, 05:57:59 AM »
Hi, so I recently switched to avast! because I was told that AVG just wasn't cutting it anymore. So, I was setting up the home/free edition or w/e it is. So, I ran the first virus scan, and it found several malware/viruses, and I decided to move them to the virus chest, problem was, a bunch of the time, I got this error:

virus chest server is not running. RPC communication failed.

I looked at previous posts, and they recommended uninstalling other virus scanners. Thing is, I uninstalled AVG free edition. I'm running AVG antispyware... but that's not a virus scanner... can any1 help me?

Hi...

How did you go about uninstalling AVG? If you just uninstalled it through the Control Panel, this usually does not completely uninstall everything. If this is the case, first download this utility and run it...

http://www.avg.com/filedir/util/avg_arm_sup_____.dir/avgremover.exe

Then download and run this utility here...

http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-uninstall-utility.html

Then run an online scan here to remove the infections, if any...

http://housecall65.trendmicro.com/

Now, reinstall Avast from scratch...

Let us know how this turns out. :)

Best Regards...
