Pause Provider
« on: March 15, 2004, 11:27:19 AM »
Since installing Avast Home, I have to use the pause facility before I can get into Windows updates. This is no problem, but reading some of the other posts, can you please tell me should I also use 'pause' while installing new software either from a cd or the internet?

Thanks C.

What do you mean you have to use the pause facility?
I update Windows with the providers running (Windows 98/Me/XP) without any trouble...  ::)
You can disable but you do not have too.
While installing software, I reccomend you do not turn off the protection. avast! won´t harm the installation if it does not contain a virus and your program will work fine. On contrary, some softwares could harm your avast! installation (such like some firewalls and other antivirus applications).

Hope this help.  ;D

Hi again, thank you both for replying.

Sorry, maybe I didnt make myself clear the first time around  :-[

I go into the pause provider, and pause 'standard shield' This enables me to get into Windows updates as normal. Unless I do that, Windows tells me there are no updates for my computer - and I know there are cos I havent downloaded them all.

Are you using the Script Blocker (Profesional or trial version)? Just a guess...

I really cannot see what is the relationship between avast! Home version and the Windows Update.
You can try just disabling the providers (not uninstalling) and see what we get... Can you make these tests? Thanks.  ;)
