avast! is not working
« on: March 16, 2004, 07:27:15 PM »
it's like that. i have norton antivirus (again, later i will tell why  ;) ). today at aprox 14 o'clock, i was tired if norton, and wanted to install Avast!. So i did it. I have uninstalled norton, restarted computer, installed Avast!, restarted computer again and wanted to start Avast! I have entered reg number, and when I clicked "OK" button, this message has accoured: "storage cannot be created for the "splash" task" and i clicked "OK" again. when I did it, another message has accoured: "configuration is not loaded properly" and something that i don't rememember... So i'm stuck with norton again  :'( ??? ::)
can anyone help me? what should I do?

Hi :)

Norton is a nasty thing and even if you uninstall it,it'll leave hundreds of files and registry entries behind.

Use Search and search for files with norton and symantec string in the filename/foldername and delete everything it finds.

Than use RegSeeker (Free) and again search for strings norton and symantec through all registry hives. Delete everything it finds again.
Than use Registry cleanup to clean any remaning reg entries.

This should help i guess, because i cleaned system this way and i have no problems with avast! after that.

You definetivelly do not have a well-done installation...
You can follow what RejZoR said or, first, try to Repair the avast! installation (Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Repair option).

Wellcome to forums  ;)

Keep in mind that Reg-Seeker is beta software, and I personally would not recommend it to beginners. It is very aggressive, and you definately do not want to use it without first spending some time developing a detailed exclusinion list!!

"storage cannot be created for the "splash" task" and I click "OK"
then this accoured:
"configuration is not loaded properly. Error: dbsCreateObject and I click "OK" again.
and then is this error:
"program cannot save parameters to the storage! (error: dbsCreateObject)
what to do?  ???

BB4l, if you have tried to search a little in the board you will find the solution for your problem:

http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=2;action=display;threadid=232;start=msg1000#msg1000

Basically:
Your problem could be caused by problem with ODBC or MS Jet driver. I suggest you changing the "Database" key of "data\avast4.ini" file from "ODBC" to "XML" and boot the computer. You can also update these Microsoft components.

More information about the avast4.ini file you can see here: http://www.avast.com/forum/index.php?board=2;action=display;threadid=1647

Mostly concerning "storage" and "dbs", I would guess that the problem may be related to the database drivers you may try to get them from www.microsoft.com/data. You may also try to change the database type: open Data\avast4.ini file and in the section [Common], change Database=ODBC to Database=XML.
