Virus chest w/ kernel32 and winsock- now has error
« on: February 23, 2008, 07:48:44 PM »
I had three system files in my virus chest- Kernel32.d11, winsock.dll and wsock32.dll. After I reviewed them, I got an error message saying "chestOpenlistError 1753."

should these system files be deleted if they are in my virus chest? What was the error message?

Thanks!!

Those files belong there. Avast put them there as backups. If you look, you will see they are in the system section of the chest.

I have the same exact problem. I installed Avst4HOme on 8/5/08 and subsequently found the same 3 files in the system files section of the virus chest.

I understand that it's not actually a "problem" but I'm wondering why Avast puts the files in the virus chest for backup purposes. Seems like a weird place to put backup files.

Thanks.

Because it's a Chest, a safe, a secure place
bad stuff is in a different safety deposit box inside the safe
backups are in a different drawer
user stuff etc

First it isn't a problem.

Because nothing can touch them in the avast chest (System Files section), a protected area and if you look you will find they are in a different section of the chest from the Infected Files.

Outside of the chest all files can potentially be infected and what use would an infected back-up be, zero.
