We will need more information to be able to help you:
- Which OS are you using? Is it up to date?
- Do you use a firewall? Which one?
- Do you have any other antivirus installed in your system?  Did you have in the past?
- Any other security programs that could interfere?
- Seems that you take the very bottom of the setup.log (nothing done message). Can you post a little bit more of this file, 200-250 lines?

What do you mean of "have done complete reinstall"?
An installation from the scratch:

1. Uninstall avast from Control Panel first.
2. Boot.
3. Use Avast Uninstall for complete uninstallation.
4. Boot.
5. Install again the last version.
6. Boot.
7. Check and post the results.

Check if the servers.def file is corrupt or 0KB (C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\Setup\servers.def).
You can try and download the servers.def file, http://files.avast.com/iavs4x/servers.def and replace the one in the avast setup folder.

The log posted shows that there is nothing wrong with the severs.def file (it contained 180 entries) and avast was trying to access valid servers but failing to make a network connection to them as noted by psw.

It may be that another function on the system is, for whatever reason, blocking outbound access at the time avast is trying to connect at startup.  I was talking earlier today with a Vista user on a brand new high end quad core Dell machine who is getting periodic errors just like this from avast at startup.

It would be work trying to delay the avast automatic update a little to allow any other functions potentially blocking avast to finish before avast attempts to connect to the network.  To do this requires an edit to the avast4.ini file.

See this post for details:

I created a new servers.def
and changed avast.ini:
[InetWD]
RASWaitSeconds=120
UpdatePeriod=240
UseRAS=0
AssumeAlwaysConnected=0

I will post the results asap.
