Threatfire????
« on: March 01, 2008, 08:01:25 PM »
can someone tell me why since the latest version of the free version of pctools threatfire(never did before) it is being recognized in my hp xp2 laptop home window security center as an anti-virus program-turn off threat and avast will appear in the security center and turn off avast and threatfire will appear-leave both on and it says i have 2 anti-virus programs ::) ???

No ThreatFire for me anymore. Messed my Firefox installation and messed some program installation/desinstallation, letting a lot of trash (of these programs) behind... Tested my computer without it, works...
But, about your problem, I never even though ThreatFire as being an antivirus, but if this is the case, it explains the conflicts with avast and other programs.

Dan,

Back when Threatfire was called Cyberhawk (and after PC Tools bought it), it caused Windows Explorer on my computer to crash.  A few others had the same problem.  Ditched it & never tried it again.

The best product from PC Tools is their firewall.  On my laptop I often lose my wireless internet & have to hit repair (restarts my wireless card).  I uninstalled PCTfw & downloaded ZA.  No more wireless internet problems.  ZA is now lighter than it has been in a long while, no more strain on my laptop. :)

I've turned off Spyware Terminator because I'm using avast! 4.8, it's an antispyware (Checkmark certified) & antivirus now. :)  I hope avast! is as good or better that ST & WD.

I prefer the Windows defragger & eprompter for email.  MruBlaster is a pain.  Video games are a boring waste of time, I have better ways of wasting time. ;D  I'm waiting for Defraggler to go final.

I, too, wish SpywareBlaster worked with Opera.

Although not one of my favorite activities, games and game machines are what made the computer so popular.
Using your computer to play games is also a users choice.  :)

to each his own...that's what make the world different-different strokes for different folks :D

Whatever people use their computers for is their choice. :)  We're all free to do what we want as long as it's legal.   I wasn't criticizing, I said I have my own way of wasting time. ;D  None of us should waste time as life is too short.  For some, their time is cut short prematurely. :'(

I think you shouldn't turn off your AS. AVAST has got AS capabilities, but i think,IMO, you should to have an specific AS.
If you visit a lot of forums, Kaspersky AV or NOD32 users use too an specific AS. And both AV's have got AS capabilities a lot of time ago.

Sorry my english :P

Rafel,

Turning off Spyware Terminator is the only way I'm going to find out how good an A-S avast! is.  I will run scans with SUPERAntiSpyware free to find anything avast! misses (hopefully nothing).

You should to have an specific AS.
If not integrated into the antivirus, I'd rather use only on-demand like until now.

I notice some have made reference to Avast 4.8---is this now available?
The website only has Avast Home 4.7.

Dell Laptop, 1.6Ghz, 1.5GB RAM, XPsp3, Avast Free, Windows Firewall

Sometime ago I read in Evangelists' Corner Café that the AS & AV were going to use the same scanning engine.  I don't know if it worked out that way.

Ask this question in Beta.

Maybe you are asking where the GUI section of the AS is?  There isn't any, it's all in one.
