Problems with virus
« on: February 14, 2012, 07:23:09 PM »
Hello

I have been using Avast 6.0 free home edition for the last 6months, everything seemed okay but i had noticed that on my start page i still have ( Norton password installer manager listed in all programs, so i done a search on my harddisk and it  looks like its still on my laptop i'm in the UK.

Also my laptop seems to be over heating and then switches off?

Any help wld be great, pls explain in easy step by step as i'm not very computer minded.

Problems with virus
your topic say virus problem....and i dont understant what  Norton password installer has to do with that ?

Norton is not a virus......well there are those who would say it is  ;D

did you have Norton antivirus intsalled before you installed avast ?
did you uninstall it before installing avast ?

Hmm yes i know those are two different issue's  Norton was the anti virus protection on my new lap top, but it ran very slowly so i removed it from my laptop then installed Avast about 6 months ago, i done a search but norton files are still on my harddrive and i might not removed it completly.

I think its possible Avast might be conflicting with whats left of norton, my laptop as been over heating and keeps switching off

Run the Norton removal tool found here http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/ reboot when done and run again.

That Norton Uninstaller listed on singularlabs site is for only Norton products 2006 and later.
https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp/help-solutions.jsp?docid=20080828154508EN&lg=english&ct=united+states&product=home&version=1&pvid=f-home&entsrc=redirect_pubweb

Uups ! Thanks Don

Check this site and choose the right removal tool for your product.

https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp/help-solutions.jsp?lg=english&ct=united+states&docid=20080710133834EN&product=home&version=1&pvid=f-home

@ DonZ63

It has come to my attention that removal tool 26a for all Norton programs can be used for 2003 and later. Read step 2 of the site where it states " The Norton Removal Tool uninstalls all Norton 2003 and later products, Norton 360, and Norton SystemWorks 12.0 from your computer "

Yep. Typical Symantec boys from Bombay jibberish.

Download header says 2006 and later but within the text it says 2003 and later. All I know is with Symantec you are always "shooting in the dark" when it comes to tech support.
