Mozilla Mail problem

First AV installation was AVG, then AVG Pro.
-removed both.

Second installation was AVAST.
-problem?  Mozilla Mail and Thunderbird were always prompting or sporadically prompting for password to mail accounts (even if checked to remember).  OE did not have this problem.

Have been thinking of installing Thunderbird on another computer which is on Windows XP (mine is Win98SE) to see if I get the same reaction there too.

I feel myself quite incompetent so solve Mozilla and/or Thunderbird problems with avast. At least, if you uninstall AVG and then install avast! it must work without problem. Anyway, can you confirm:
1. you checked the option 'save password' into email accounts
2. you checked the option 'save password' into smtp authentication
3. you checked the right option to the Internet connection (Internet Settings of the browser)
4. your avast! configurations (Update (Advanced) options) define correctly the way you connect the Internet (dial-up or DSL)

GOOD NEWS!!!

Yesterday I've un-installed Mozilla, Thunderbird and even Firefox (profile folders included) and AVG Pro.

Back to AVAST since last night.

Have rebooted three times since and...

no more password requests!!!  yippee!!!  

-must have been because of previous AV installations.

Update.

After another reboot (4th) password request for various accounts has started up again.

Think I'll just have to give up on this one.

Does Mozilla support any kind of thorough logging? Like full traffic logging? It would be worth trying to look at those logs - at least we'd get an idea what's going on here, really...

For those of you who have been following this saga...

Yesterday I found the courage to try AVAST again... and guess what?
It did the exact same things as mentioned before in this thread,
only this time I sent a message to Mozilla forum.
The first posting suggested I remove saved account passwords and guess what?  It's worked!  (phew!)

No more password requests!  Zilch, niente, da nada!

Just want to thank once again the good people here who have tried to help me resolve this issue.  Very friendly and collaborative!  

And of course, to AVAST for offering us this freebie!

i'm so sorry that though i'm been using firefox & thunderbird for quite some time...i have never come across such problem and can't be of any help to you

but i'm glad that you finally solved the problem and stick to avast...

Well, I'm glad a solution was found.  

If anyone ever has this problem then they won't be left in the dark and will avoid having to go through so many frustrations.

A question remains though.  Why it didn't happen to OE?  Same accounts.
