I suggest an installation from the scratch:

1. Uninstall avast from Control Panel first.
2. Boot.
3. Use Avast Uninstall for complete uninstallation. Maybe it will be necessary to disable the self-defence module of avast (Troubleshooting tab of settings) if it will be possible to enter the program settings or, at least, boot into safe-mode and start aswClear.exe from there.
4. Boot.
5. Install again the last version.
6. Boot.
7. Check and post the results.

Hi Tech,

Thanks for your continuing support.

I fully completed the 7 steps you described above. Successfully removed and re-installed Avast Pro 4.8.1169.

I went in to the Enhanced Interface and checked the box under settings you mentioned in an earlier post.

However I still only see:

- Explorer Extension
- Screen Saver
- Resident Protection
- Scan: diskette A
- Scan: interactive selection
- Scan: local disks

Now I don't know whether to be worried or laugh :D

Thanks in advance again!

Hi!

I think you just didn't add the 'new' feature ;)

EDIT:
click on 'new' enter a name for your scan - then go to area and add the rootkit-scan (full or quick) (you have to remove the 'Local Drives' if you want do do a rootkitscan only) :)
i don't really know if it is recomended to change any other settings in the window... :-\

EDIT 2:
Oh, and what i forgot - if you get an error window (which i got the first time) "You tried to start a file with a wrong format" (or somothing like that...) you just have to do a system-restart...
