Virus Keeps Returning After Reboot
« on: March 21, 2004, 08:58:45 AM »
Every time I boot Avast is detecting the same two infected files.  I have tried deleting and moving to container to no avail.  It appears these virus are regenerating themselves on re-boot.

File name 1: c:\program files\stc\clrschp070.exe
Virus: Win32:Trojan-Gen. {VC}

File Name 2:c:\program files\stc\slmss.exe
Virus: Win32:Trojan-Gen. {UPX!}

I have even tried deleting the STC folder but it also magically reappears after a re-boot.

What do I do to resolve this problem?

BTW: It would be a lot easier to reprt these types of issues if we could cut and paste from the container log.

Hi,

please use the board search and read the other posts on:
trojan-gen

then come back with the scan-results by Trend, RAV, KAV, spybot and ad-aware (pause avast shield for this)

I have read the other posts but don't see where you provide any solution or advice.  Maybe I'm just missing it but all I see are questions very similar  mine which really does not help.

How did this virus get thru Avast in the first place?

Why does it keep recurring on EVERY re-boot even without being connected to any network?

An Avast Scan after deleting the Trojan-Gen infected files runs clean.

I don't  know what the Trend, RAV, KAV, spybot and ad-aware scannners are.  I have SpyKiller and NoAdWare and the both now run clean.

I am running Avast 4.1 Pro Build 4.1.357 on Windows XP Pro with all MS patches current.

Why don't you try a scanning at boot-time?
You can schedule it at the menu of the Simple User Interface (skin).

Maybe, the avast! Cleaner (downloadable at the site) could help you with this worm but I'm not sure.  ;)

Seems like a missed startup program is regenerating the directory and files on reboot.

A HijackThis log would probably allow it to be identified pretty easily
